Royal HEARTBREAK: Meghan Markle and Harry hammer final nail in coffin of their London life
MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry have begun a new life away from the Royal Family, moving to Canada and ditching their titles. Now, it seems theres no turning back as they make the final moves to cut ties to their old life.
This week, it was revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, would officially shut down their London offices. The office, based in Buckingham Palace, was expected to remain open as a base for their charity work, but it seems the couple have decided to cut all ties.
Unfortunately, the office closure means some of the 15 staff employed could be out of a job.
The Palace is reportedly trying to reassign some of the staff within the royal household, but there are likely to be some redundancies.
And for fans of the Sussexes, it’s the final sign the couple isn’t planning on coming back.
The bombshell announcement came in January, when the couple announced they planned to give up their roles as senior royals and work to become “financially independent”.
After a historic deal was struck with the Queen, the Sussexes gave up their ‘Royal Highness’ titles and headed over to Canada for some peace and quiet.
But soon after they arrived, some concerns were raised for their safety amid increased media intrusion.
There were whispers of Meghan, Harry and their baby, Archie, coming back into the protection of the royal fold.
This latest news, however, seems to prove there are no plans for a royal comeback.
Friends of the couple have said they are beginning to settle into their new life and are enjoying Canada.
A friend told PEOPLE Magazine: “This decision [to leave] had been weighing on them for a long time, and they are relieved to have it done.
“A weight has been lifted off their shoulders.”
The couple are reportedly enjoying the surroundings of Vancouver Island, spending time hiking and “chilling out”.
Meghan may skip last appearance as working royal despite Queen invite. They have set up house in a mansion off the Pacific coast.
The friend said: “They both love to be outside and have been loving it there.
“When they’re not doing yoga or eating in, Harry will pick up sandwiches at a local spot, and Meghan walks her beloved rescue beagle Guy and the couple’s adopted Labrador.
“They are enjoying living a quiet life.
“They go for long walks, they do yoga, and Meghan cooks.
“They are real homebodies who love to chill out with Archie and the dogs.”
Under the terms of the deal struck with the Queen, the Sussexes will keep their UK base, Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate.
But they must repay the £2.4m of taxpayers’ money used to renovate the property and will pay for its upkeep in future.
